Settling for just good enough

okIn the current state of the economy, it is very tempting to just stay put at your job, or to accept a job because it pays the bills. After all, we don't want to rock the boat, and there are bills to pay. How good of a long term strategy is this though? What is the impact of such a decision going to have on your health, finances, and relationships over time?

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reports that more people die at 9:00 AM on Monday morning that any other time of day or day of the week. Does that surprise you?

Recently, I stated that in the story of the dog moaning while laying on the nail, I want to be that nail that is uncomfortable. However, I want to make you uncomfortable more and more so that you won't just settle for good enough. I firmly believe that you can find work that you enjoy doing, make money at, and still have time for a personal life.

I'm very familar with people who work for large companies and have experienced layoffs all around them. In a sense, they are frightened into working longer hours and upsetting their balanced lives because they are afraid of being unemployed. If this is you, it is unhealthy. Make a plan to obtain more balance in your life. Pick up 48 Days to the Work You Love and/or The Compound Effect. Apply the principles in these books to your life so that you won't settle for just good enough. Rather, settle for nothing less than excellence!
