While walking my dogs the other day, one of my neighbors was backing out of her driveway. She rolled down her window to say hi and that she was on her way to the doctor. Apparently she has been ill for almost two weeks, and felt it was time to go in. She also mentioned that she is working many hours and feeling the stress at work. I can see the correlation but I wonder if she does.
In the same week, I ran across a friend who recently started a new position within the company he's employed by. We have talked literally for months. His explanation was that he wishes he could even take time for lunch. He's so busy now that he's working weekends. He's aware that this is not good for his health, but he doesn't see an alternative. He mentioned that he is a stress eater also, and hopes things will slow down soon. My experience says it won't. Once you give a company a portion of your life, they won't let go.
Are you letting your work affect your health? I tell job seekers all the time to make certain they are taking time for physical health, but this really applies to all of us. Make certain you can take time out of your day to exercise, even if it's a 15 - 30 minute walk. Taking care of your health will enable you to handle life's stresses.
