I went to the Best Buy store near my house yesterday looking for a new DVD player. Ours have quit working a while ago. I have put off buying a replacement for a while because, not having anything other than basic cable at our house, the majority of new players hook up to your cable or satellite box. The few that have built-in tuners anymore cost $150 more than the newer players. Yuck!
While looking at the various players, a sales associate came up and asked if he could help. After explaining that I was looking for a DVD/VCR combo that has a tuner built-in, I expressed dismay about the prices. He mentioned that a DVD recorder with a built-in tuner could meet my needs as I could start recording on DVD’s, and hookup our VCR (yes, I have VHS tapes) and camcorder to this unit to copy recordings over. I said good point, but I’m just not happy about paying $150 for a feature like the tuner. At this point, Trey (the associate) says he may have an open box item in the back. He returns two minutes later with a unit and says that it is $69.99. I just about hit the floor because the shelf sticker says $235! That’s nearly a 70% mark down. I wanted a better deal, but this exceeded my expectations. The only thing was that it was missing a basic cable that I already had at home. I thanked Trey and went my way. The cool thing is that this particular Best Buy store now has an enthusiastic customer who will likely return because of the great service and deal I received. Don’t be afraid to ask for a better deal for you, or to be patient. Good things do come to those who are patient and purposeful.
The greatest thing about deals like this is that they allow me to continue to pay for products with money I have on hand. Financial independence is a fantastic freedom to have. Are you willing to put in the effort and sacrifice to be free from debt?
