I had the privilege of having lunch with a friend recently to work on some future opportunities I’m exploring. We spent some time reviewing my personal history. It’s clear to me that I shouldn’t be where I’m at today because of some disadvantages and events. However, the one thing that came clear from this reflection was the power of belief.

I didn’t always have the power of belief, and still don't. In fact, many of the times, I had no belief in myself. It was the belief that others had in my ability to overcome adversity of disadvantage that saw me through. From the adult church friend in high school who laid the path for me to become the dad I am, the mentor who helped shape me into the husband I am (for better or worse), there were those who believed in me and helped me achieve my dreams. This is true in career as well as I can thank my friend and former manager Tim for seeing something in me though I had no experience in the financial services industry. He brought me over and later promoted me to manage an area where I had relatively little experience. But those were the best work years I had, and I saw good results in the workers under my charge as I expressed my belief in them as well. Today, I am fortunate to have may friends who are entrepreneurs themselves, encouraging me as I pursue my dreams and passions. Do you have someone like this in your life?
